In her extended right hand she holds a patera, while her left hand grasps a bow, attributes consistent with her role as divine huntress and protectress of the city. The composition is characteristic of the high-quality civic coinage struck at Ephesus during the reign of Gordian III, emphasising the city's proud neokorate status as first of Asia. The Greek civic legend encircles the type. |
