| Reverse description | Zeus enthroned to the left, his figure rendered in the classical seated divine type standard to provincial bronze coinage of Asia Minor. In his outstretched right hand he holds a Nike, and in his left a long sceptre rising vertically behind him. The magistrate's name and civic ethnic appear in the field and around the coin: ϹΤΡΑ ΜΕΝΑΝΔΡΟ in the field divided across registers, with ΑΠΟΛΛ/ωΝΙΑ-ΤωΝ identifying the issuing city of Apollonia Salbace. The reverse legend thus records both the strategos Menandros responsible for the issue and the civic authority of the mint. |
