On the left, Asclepius stands facing right with head turned left, his right hand resting upon a serpent-entwined staff (caduceus); on the right, the cult statue of Ephesian Artemis (Artemis Ephesia) is shown facing front in the canonical xoanon pose, adorned with multiple rows of bosses on the chest and a polos crown. The composition alludes to the religious identities of both cities — Asclepius being closely associated with Pergamum, and Artemis with Ephesus.
