| Reverse description | Kore (Persephone), the principal civic deity of Sardis, depicted standing facing, rendered in a stiff, hieratic frontality consistent with the local cult image tradition. The goddess is shown in long, elaborately draped robes with a kalathos or polos crown atop her head, and flanked on either side by tall poppies, her sacred attribute. The encircling Greek legend references the civic magistrate and the city's triple neocorate status, running continuously around the outer field. |
