Obverse description Laureate and cuirassed bust of Emperor Elagabalus facing right, wearing an elaborately decorated cuirass depicted in three-quarter front view. The obverse legend is distributed around the periphery of the flan, identifying the emperor by his imperial titulature. The portrait is rendered in the provincial Syrian style characteristic of the Severan period, with bold relief and attention to decorative detail on the armor.
