Reverse description The iconic cult statue of Artemis of Ephesus (Artemis Ephesia) depicted standing facing, her body rendered in the rigid, hieratic frontal stance characteristic of the celebrated xoanon. She wears the distinctive kalathos (cylindrical crown) on her head and her torso is adorned with the multiple rows of ovoid protuberances traditional to this cult image. The statue is flanked by lateral supports, and the magistrate's legend identifying the issuing strategos and the civic ethnic of Cyme is distributed around the field.
