The composition is framed by two eagles standing with wings spread, one to each side of the cult image, evoking the sacred precinct of the goddess at Magnesia. The reverse legend naming the magistrate Dioskourides Gratos and the civic title ΜΗΤΡΟ ΜΑΓΝΗΤ ΛΕΥΚΟΦΡΥϹ encircles the design. |

Magnesia ad Maeandrum's claim to the title *Metropolis* and the epithet *Leucophryene* — after the sanctuary of Artemis Leucophryene — was a fiercely contested civic honor during the imperial period. The magistrate named in the obverse legend, Dioskourides Gratos, served as the local official responsible for authorizing this bronze issue, a practice that gave provincial elites both administrative visibility and a form of permanent civic record. Magnesia pressed its metropolitan claims aggressively under the Antonines, and coin production was one tool for doing so.
