| Reverse description | The xoanon-type cult statue of Artemis of Ephesus (Artemis Ephesia) stands facing, depicted in the traditional hieratic manner with a tall kalathos (polos) crown upon her head. The goddess is shown in her characteristic form with multiple rows of oval pendants across the chest, the lower body tightly wrapped in a sheath adorned with symbolic reliefs, and lateral supports flanking the figure on either side. The reverse legend, recording the name of the local strategos Claudius Kallistos and the ethnic of the Colophonians, is disposed around the field. |
