| Beschrijving keerzijde | Cybele, the Phrygian mother goddess, enthroned and seated to the left upon an ornate throne, her right hand extended and holding a patera, her left arm resting upon a tympanum. At her feet and beneath the throne, one or more lions are depicted as her sacred attendants, rendered in the local provincial style. The composition reflects the strong cultic significance of Cybele in the Phrygian region, where her worship was of particular importance. A Greek civic legend surrounding the type records the name of the local magistrate responsible for the coinage issue. |
