Maeonia was a small Lydian community whose civic coinage under Trajan Decius depended entirely on the initiative of local magistrates — the name Appianus recorded in the legend identifies the sitting archon who both authorized and took public responsibility for the issue. The designation "Β ΑΡΧ Α ΤΟ Β" indicates this was his second term, first archonship, second issue, a layered administrative notation that reflects how precisely the Maeonians tracked civic minting authority.
Trajan Decius ruled less than two years before dying at the Battle of Abritus in 251 AD, making the window for provincial issues struck in his name exceptionally narrow.
