Bria was a minor Phrygian settlement whose civic coinage under Septimius Severus survives in very small numbers — the conventus of Apamea administered dozens of such communities, and many struck bronze only sporadically, when a local magistrate sought the prestige of issuing coins in his own name. The strategos Apollonios named in the inscription was almost certainly financing the issue himself, a common arrangement in provincial Asia Minor where civic minting rights were exercised but the cost fell on individuals rather than the treasury.
