Reverse description A heroic figure in full military dress stands facing right, holding a vertical spear in his left hand while extending his right hand to clasp the hand of Tyche (or a personification of the city), who stands to the left wearing a mural crown and holding a transverse sceptre. The composition, known as a dexiosis scene, symbolises divine favour or civic patronage. The reverse legend, distributed around the field, identifies the issuing authority as the Metropolitans of Ionia.
