Reverse description Sarapis, the Graeco-Egyptian deity, reclines at left upon a garlanded ceremonial couch, his body turned to the left. He holds an eagle in his outstretched right hand and a long transverse sceptre in his left, both attributes emblematic of his divine sovereignty and his syncretic association with Zeus. The reverse legend C I F SINOPE ANN CCLV encircles the scene, recording the colonial title Colonia Iulia Felix Sinope and the city era date of year 255, corresponding to 209-210 AD. The composition reflects the strong Egyptianizing religious influence at Sinope during the Severan era.
