背面描述 The three Charites (Graces) standing in their traditional grouping, rendered as semi-draped or nude figures with their arms interlinked in a circular embrace. The outer Charis on the left holds a corn ear, while the outer Charis on the right holds a flower, attributes emphasizing the goddesses' role as bestowers of abundance and beauty. The central figure faces outward while the flanking figures are turned inward, following the classical Hellenistic iconographic convention. The ethnic legend ΑΦΡΟΔΕΙϹΙΩΝ appears in the lower field or exergue, identifying the issuing city of Aphrodisias.

附加信息

Aphrodisias enjoyed an unusually privileged relationship with Rome — the city held the status of a free, tax-exempt community, a distinction it fiercely protected through diplomacy and, when necessary, flattery of successive emperors. Striking civic bronze under Septimius Severus was as much a political statement of continued autonomy as it was a practical monetary act.

The Conventus of Alabanda was the judicial district under which Aphrodisias fell, though the city's self-regard far exceeded that administrative subordination. Local bronze of this weight class rarely traveled far from its issuing city.
