| 裏面の説明 | Hygieia stands to the right, extending a patera from which she feeds a serpent coiling upward before her. To her left stands Asclepius, depicted facing with his head turned to the left, his right hand resting upon a serpent-entwined staff (kerykeion) and his left hand placed at his hip. The composition reflects the standard provincial iconography of the healing deities. The encircling Greek legend names the local magistrate and the civic identity of the issuing city. |

Bargasa was one of the more obscure Carian hill towns, its civic coinage output modest even by provincial standards. Under Septimius Severus, local magistrates — here the grammateus Flavius Valerianus, whose name anchors the obverse legend — held direct responsibility for authorizing and financing civic bronze issues, a Greek civic tradition the Roman administration left largely undisturbed in Asia Minor.
The grammateus title carried genuine administrative weight, not ceremonial function. Valerianus would have negotiated the issue locally, making this as much a document of Carian municipal politics as of Roman imperial authority.
