背面描述 Dionysus, god of wine, depicted standing to the left in full figure, his body draped in the conventional divine manner. In his extended right hand he holds a cantharus (wine cup) tilted downward toward a panther crouching at his feet to the lower left, while his left hand grasps a thyrsus, the fennel-staff wreathed with ivy that serves as his divine attribute. The ethnic legend ΕΡΜΟΚΑΠΗΛΕΙΤΩΝ is disposed around the field, identifying the issuing civic authority of Hermocapelia in Lydia. The composition reflects the strong Dionysiac religious tradition prevalent in the cities of the Hermus valley during the Imperial period.

附加信息

Hermocapelia was a minor Lydian city whose coinage output under Septimius Severus was modest even by provincial standards. The city's name appears in the genitive on its coins as ΕΡΜΟΚΑΠΗΛΕΙΤΩΝ — a rare enough ethnic that modern die studies have catalogued only a handful of distinct obverse dies for the entire Severan period.

Its inclusion in the Pergamene conventus placed it administratively under the jurisdiction of the proconsul of Asia, who held assizes at Pergamum. Local bronze of this module was almost certainly struck for civic use rather than inter-city commerce.
