| Reverse description | Tetrastyle temple depicted in elevation, with four columns surmounted by an entablature and pediment containing a disc symbol. Atop the temple roof stands the sacred conical baetyl stone of the goddess Mâ, upon which Nike is perched, facing left, holding a wreath in her extended right hand and a palm branch in her left. The composition is a hallmark of Comana Pontica coinage, referencing the celebrated sanctuary of Mâ at that city. The reverse legend ΙΕΡΟΚΑΙϹΑ ΚΟΜΑΝΕ ΕΤ ΒΟΡ encircles the design, identifying the holy city of Comana with its local era date. |
