| Additional information |
Magnesia ad Maeandrum operated under the Roman provincial system with considerable civic autonomy, and the magistrate name preserved in this coin's legend — Eutychion — places it within a known sequence of civic officials whose tenures have been partially reconstructed from surviving bronze issues. The years 195–198 correspond to Severus consolidating power after defeating his rivals Pescennius Niger and Clodius Albinus, a period when eastern cities like Magnesia had strong incentive to demonstrate loyalty through civic coinage honoring the new dynasty.
Magnesia's mint was active but not prolific; the survival rate of these civic bronzes is low, and die studies suggest small production runs for individual magistracies.
