| Obverse description | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Philip I (Philip the Arab) facing left, seen from the rear, with the emperor depicted in a dynamic martial pose bearing a forward-pointing spear in his right hand and a round shield adorned with a gorgoneion device on his left arm. The obverse legend encircles the imperial effigy in Greek characters. The treatment of the bust is characteristic of Provincial bronze coinage struck under the Severan and early post-Severan tradition, with careful attention to imperial regalia and the decorative shield device serving as a notable artistic feature. |
