Hypaepa was a small Lydian city whose coins survive in frustratingly small numbers, and issues attributable to the earliest years of Marcus Aurelius's reign — before his co-emperor Lucius Verus departs for the Parthian front in 162 — are among the rarer products of the Ephesian conventus. The magistrate name preserved in the legend, Philomelos, appears on only a handful of recorded types, making him one of the more obscure strategos figures across the entire Lydian regional series.
