Obverse description Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gordian III facing right, rendered in three-quarter view from the front. The cuirass is occasionally decorated with a figure of Victory standing right, holding a wreath and palm branch. The imperial effigy is portrayed with youthful features characteristic of Gordian III's coinage. The encircling legend names the emperor in full, beginning at the left field.
