Obverse description Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gordian III facing right, seen from the rear, with paludamentum and muscled cuirass rendered in detail. The imperial effigy is presented in the characteristic three-quarter rear view common to provincial bronzes of this period. The encircling Greek legend runs along the beaded border of the flan. The portrait conveys the youthful features of the emperor, consistent with his coinage struck between 238 and 244 AD.
