Cadi was a small Phrygian city within the Sardis conventus whose civic coinage under Gordian III frequently names local magistrates — here Aurelius Kleopatoros, serving as archon for a second term. The retention of the magistrate's name across multiple issues was a deliberate act of civic self-promotion, embedding local elite identity into the imperial bronze supply. Gordian's reign itself was cut short in 244 when his Praetorian prefect Philip the Arab engineered his death on campaign against Persia, ending one of the more productive periods for Phrygian civic bronzes.
