| Beschrijving keerzijde | The goddess Cybele, the Great Mother, is depicted enthroned and seated to the left, wearing a mural crown and holding a patera in her outstretched right hand while her left arm rests upon a tympanum. A lion is placed on each side of her throne, serving as her divine attributes and guardian beasts. The composition reflects the strong local veneration of Cybele at Metropolis in Ionia, where she held particular religious significance. The reverse field is framed by the civic legend naming the presiding strategos. The design is characteristic of the provincial bronze coinage struck under the magistracy of Aurelius Diogenes. |
