| Obverse description | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gordian III facing right, rendered in three-quarter view from the rear, with the paludamentum visible over the left shoulder and the cuirass ornately detailed across the chest. The imperial effigy is portrayed in the typical provincial style of the Ephesus conventus, with bold, somewhat stylized modeling of the facial features. The encircling Greek legend runs along the border of the field, contained within a dotted beaded border. The portrait conveys the youthful features attributed to Gordian III in contemporary provincial coinage. |
