背面描述 The goddess Adrasteia depicted standing to the left in the central field, rendered in the round in the provincial Greek style. She holds a globe or orb in her outstretched right hand and cradles the infant Zeus in her left arm, a mythological subject closely associated with the cult traditions of Magnesia ad Maeandrum. The figure is clothed in a long chiton and himation, and occupies the full height of the die. The encircling Greek legend, set within a dotted border, records the name of the local magistrate (grammateus) Athenodoros and the ethnic of the issuing city.

附加信息

Magnesia ad Maeandrum's civic bronze issues under Gordian III name a local magistrate — here Athenodoros, whose title ΕΠΙ ΓΡ (ἐπὶ γραμματέως) identifies him as grammateus, the city's chief secretary. The grammateus held real administrative weight in Greek Asia under Roman rule, and the practice of placing his name on coinage was as much a record of civic office as it was a minting authorization. Magnesia produced a notably active civic bronze series during Gordian's reign before the broader cessation of Greek provincial coinage under Diocletian rendered such local issues obsolete within a generation.
