Additional information

Germe was a minor Mysian city whose civic coinage under Gordian III relied heavily on the goodwill of the provincial governor — the magistrate named in the legend, Aristoneos, held the office of strategos and effectively underwrote the issue's authority. Provincial bronze of this type circulated almost exclusively within the conventus district, rarely traveling beyond the immediate region's market economy, which is precisely why specimens surface so infrequently outside of Turkish soil hoards.
