| Obverse description | Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gordian III facing right, rendered in three-quarter view from the rear, with the paludamentum visible over the left shoulder and the cuirass detailing partially discernible despite heavy wear. The imperial effigy occupies the central field, with the Greek legend disposed around the periphery. The portrait reflects the provincial die-engraving tradition of the Pergamene conventus, with characteristic broad flan and bold relief. Surface shows a dark green patina with areas of encrustation consistent with extended burial. |

Germe was a minor Mysian city whose civic coinage under Gordian III was administered under the authority of the strategist Ael. Aristoneikos, whose name appears in the magistrate formula on this issue. Provincial bronze of this type ceased entirely with Gordian's death at Massice in 244 — killed, most likely, on the orders of his own praetorian prefect Philip, who then negotiated peace with Shapur I and marched the army back to Rome as emperor. The Pergamene conventus produced a dense variety of civic issues under Gordian, and Germe's output remains among the smaller documented series within it.
