Obverse description Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gordian III facing right, seen from the rear, with paludamentum visible over the left shoulder. The emperor is depicted in a youthful manner consistent with his known portraiture. The encircling Greek legend reads in the field around the bust, occupying the full periphery of the flan. The portrait style is characteristic of provincial bronze coinage struck at Pontic mints during the mid-third century AD.
