Obverse description Confronted busts of the Emperor Gordian III and Empress Tranquillina facing one another: Gordian III depicted laureate, draped, and cuirassed to the right as seen from the rear, his bust occupying the left side of the field; Tranquillina depicted diademed and draped to the left, her bust facing him on the right side. The double portrait composition is a hallmark of the Odessos civic coinage of this reign. The encircling Greek legend names both imperial figures in the nominative and Augusta title.
