| 背面描述 | Draped, veiled, and turreted bust of Tyche, the personification of the city's fortune, facing left, rendered as the tutelary deity of Carrhae. Before her, the silenic figure of Marsyas is depicted standing to the right atop a short column, carrying a wineskin over his shoulder — a well-known emblem of Roman colonial status frequently employed on civic bronzes of Mesopotamian and Syrian mints. An altar is positioned in the field, completing the civic and religious iconographic program. The encircling Greek legend ΜΗΤΡ ΚΟΛ ΚΑΡΡΗΝωΝ identifies Carrhae by its honorific title of Metropolis Colonia. The composition is characteristic of the civic coinage struck under Gordian III for the colony of Carrhae during his eastern campaigns of 243-244 AD. |
