| Beschrijving keerzijde | The river god Hermos reclines to the left in the conventional Hellenistic personification type, his body semi-draped and languidly posed. In his right hand he holds a reed or panicle of marsh grass, while his left arm rests upon an overturned urn from which water flows freely, symbolising the river's source. The figure occupies the central field, with the ethnic and deity legend disposed around the periphery in Greek characters. The composition follows the well-established numismatic tradition of depicting Lydian river deities on the civic bronze coinage of the Conventus of Sardis. |
