Reverse description The reverse field contains a multi-line honorific inscription in Greek, fully enclosed within a laurel wreath tied at the base. The legend records the magistracy of Sulpicius Hermophilos serving as first archon for the second time, and asserts the status of Sardis as a three-time neocorate city of the Koinon of Asia. The wreath border is a hallmark of civic pride on Sardian provincial bronzes of the early third century AD. The coin's surface shows heavy patination consistent with extended burial, rendering fine details of the wreath difficult to discern.
