| Reverse description | Homonoia (Concord) type depicting the personification of Smyrna as the Amazon founder, turreted and standing right, bearing a double axe over her shoulder, with the prow of a ship at her feet symbolising the city's maritime prominence. She clasps hands in a dextrarum iunctio with the turreted Tyche of Pergamon, standing left and holding a sceptre, in an eloquent allegorical expression of civic concord between the two rival cities. The magistrate's name Geminus appears in the legend as the issuing authority. The composition is a fine example of provincial Greek homonoia coinage celebrating inter-city unity. |
