Nicomedia's claim to the title ΝΕΩΚΟΡΩΝ — temple-warden — was fiercely contested among the great cities of Bithynia. The ΔΙϹ designation marks the city's second imperial cult temple, a status granted under Septimius Severus and jealously defended against rival claims from Nicaea, which pressed its own neokorate credentials before imperial arbiters throughout this period.
