| Obverse description | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Caracalla facing right, depicted from behind, with the paludamentum fastened at the right shoulder and the muscled cuirass visible beneath. The effigy displays the characteristic youthful yet stern features associated with Caracalla's portraiture on provincial coinage. A partially preserved Greek legend encircles the bust, reading Μ ΑΥΡ ΑΝΤΩΝΕΙΝΟϹ ΠΕΙΟϹ (Marcus Aurelius Antoninus Pius), with the initial letters partially off-flan. The overall style is consistent with the local engraving tradition of the Ionian mint workshops of the early third century AD. |
