Obverse description Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Valerian II (Caesar) facing right, seen from the rear, with the paludamentum visible over the left shoulder. The obverse legend curves around the bust in Greek characters identifying the prince by his imperial titles. The portrait is rendered in the provincial style characteristic of Phrygian civic bronzes of the mid-third century AD, with somewhat simplified facial features. The flan is irregular, as is typical of hammered provincial issues of this period.

Reverse description Hermes, the patron deity of Apamea, seated left upon a cippus (a low rectangular stone base), holding a purse in his extended right hand and a caduceus together with a chlamys in his left hand. The composition is a well-known civic type for Apamea Cibotus, referencing the city's mercantile prosperity and its cult of Hermes. The reverse legend in Greek letters identifies the issuing authority and city. The field shows the typical flat, slightly uneven surface of a hammered provincial bronze flan.
