Anemurium's civic bronzes under Trebonianus Gallus are dated by the city's own local era, and the epsilon in the dating formula places this piece in the fifth year of whatever reckoning the city was then using — a calendrical system that still generates scholarly disagreement. The city itself, perched on the southernmost cape of Anatolia, was soon to face an existential threat: Isaurian raids in the later third century devastated the settlement so thoroughly that occupation effectively ceased, leaving the numismatic record as one of the few coherent sources for its civic life.
