| Descrizione del rovescio | The deified Augustus seated in a triumphal quadriga drawn by four elephants, advancing to the left, depicted in the manner of a divine triumph. Augustus is shown in an elevated position atop the elaborate elephant-drawn car, holding a sceptre, the scene emblematic of his posthumous apotheosis and divine status. The reverse legend ΚΑΙϹΑΡ ΘΕΟϹ ϹΕΒΑϹΤΟϹ is inscribed in the field, referencing Augustus as the divine Caesar and sebastos. The elephants are rendered in profile with considerable detail given the module of the coin. |
