In her right hand she holds a rudder, symbolising the fortune and guidance of the city, while her left hand bears a cornucopia overflowing with fruit and grain, emblematic of abundance. The reverse legend, distributed around the field, names the issuing civic authority and the eponymous strategos responsible for the coinage. The type is a standard civic reverse for Thyatira under the Severan dynasty. |

Thyatira sat on the road between Pergamum and Sardis, and its civic coinage under Severus Alexander reflects a city confident enough in its commercial position to invest heavily in bronze production. The magistrate Pollianus named in the legend held the office of strategos, the civic official responsible for authorizing these issues — his name appearing on the coin being as much a mark of personal prestige as administrative record.
The Conventus of Pergamum grouped Thyatira with cities under Roman judicial administration from Pergamum, though Thyatira was closer culturally and economically to Sardis.
