正面描述 Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Septimius Severus facing right, with short beard rendered in fine detail typical of his portraiture. The emperor's effigy displays a bold, authoritative profile with the laurel wreath clearly defined around the head. The Greek imperial titulature legend is distributed around the bust in the field. The style is consistent with provincial bronze coinage struck at Nicaea in Bithynia during the Severan period.

附加信息

Nicaea's civic bronze issues under Septimius Severus reflect the city's careful positioning during the dynastic turbulence of 193 AD — the Year of the Five Emperors. Nicaea had backed Pescennius Niger, the eastern pretender, and after Niger's defeat the city faced potential retribution. The survival of civic coinage under Severus suggests a relatively swift accommodation with the new regime, though Nicaea lost ground to its rival Nicomedia, which had backed the winning side and was rewarded accordingly.
