| 背面描述 | Two large agonistic crowns placed side by side at centre, each crown adorned with two upright palm branches, referencing the sacred games celebrated under the homonoia alliance between Hierapolis and Sardis. The crowns are rendered in high relief with their respective inscribed labels, symbolising the Pythian games and the Chrysanthine games. A lengthy Greek civic legend encircles the entire design, proclaiming the neocorate status and the concord of the two cities. The flan bears the same characteristic notch at the upper edge visible on the obverse. |

Hierapolis and Sardis struck homonoia coinage — alliance issues jointly celebrating two cities — as a form of diplomatic currency, advertising civic harmony to Roman administrators and rival poleis alike. This piece commemorates three festival cycles: the Pythia, the Chrysanthina, and the broader homonoia games, suggesting an unusually elaborate ceremonial context for the alliance. The Chrysanthina, a flower-crown festival attested primarily at Sardis, is rarely referenced on bronze provincial issues outside that city's own coinage.
Philip I's reign provided fertile ground for such civic posturing; cities across Asia Minor competed aggressively for neokorate status and festival recognition from Rome during the 240s.
