| Reverse description | Dionysus, the patron deity of Nysa, depicted standing left in full figure, robed, holding a cantharus (wine cup) extended in his right hand and a thyrsus (ivy-tipped staff) in his left. A panther, sacred to the god, crouches at his feet to the left, a characteristic iconographic attribute associating the deity with his Bacchic retinue. The surrounding Greek legend references the local magistrate responsible for the issue. The composition reflects the civic pride of Nysa-on-the-Maeander in its association with the Dionysiac cult. |
