| Beschrijving keerzijde | Sarapis enthroned to the left upon a high-backed throne, wearing the modius (kalathos) headdress and garbed in flowing robes; his right arm is extended forward over Cerberus, the three-headed guardian of the underworld crouching at his feet, while his left hand holds a long sceptre. The composition reflects the syncretic cult of Sarapis that was prominent in the civic and religious life of Philadelphia in Lydia. The encircling Greek legend distributed around the field records the name of the presiding magistrate and the neocorate status of the city. |
