| Reverse description | The river-god Hippourios depicted as a reclining male figure turned to the left, his semi-draped body supported on his right arm and resting upon a water-urn from which a stream flows. In his raised left hand he holds a long reed, while his right arm cradles a cornucopia, symbols of the river's life-giving abundance. The design is characteristic of provincial Lydian river-god iconography of the Antonine period. The surrounding legend identifies the magistrate responsible for the coin's issue. |
