Apollonia ad Rhyndacum, seated on the Rhyndacus river in Mysia, was a minor but administratively recognized city within the Cyzicene conventus — the judicial assize district centered on Cyzicus. The dating to 169–175 places this issue squarely within the co-reign of Marcus Aurelius and Lucius Verus, then Marcus alone after Verus died in 169, while the empire was simultaneously absorbing the catastrophic Antonine Plague and sustaining pressure on the Danubian frontier.
Provincial bronze of this city is thinly documented in the major corpora, and die linkage studies for Apollonia ad Rhyndacum remain incomplete.
