Macrinus reigned just over fourteen months — from April 218 to June 218 AD — making him the first emperor never to have held a Roman senatorial rank before his accession. Provincial mints in Bithynia continued striking his portrait throughout his reign, though his rapid fall following defeat by Elagabalus's forces at the Battle of Antioch left many issues with limited circulation windows. Nicaea was among the more prolific civic mints in the region during the Severan and post-Severan periods.
