| Description du revers | Sarapis depicted standing facing, his head turned to the left, wearing the characteristic modius (kalathos) headdress and himation draped about the lower body. The god holds a long sceptre in his right hand, while to his left stands Cerberus, the three-headed guardian of the underworld, serving as an attribute of the chthonic deity. The date legend L ΙΖ (regnal year 17) appears in the right field, conforming to the standard Alexandrian dating convention. The composition is rendered in the bold, somewhat summary style characteristic of Alexandrian bronze coinage of the Hadrianic period. |
