背面描述 The personification of Euthenia, the Alexandrian goddess of abundance and prosperity, reclines to the left atop a sphinx, her body draped in flowing garments rendered with careful detail. She extends her right arm forward, holding a bunch of ears of corn, a standard attribute identifying her role as a deity of plenty and fertility. The date legend L ΔΩΔΕΚ appears in the exergue below the main design, indicating the 12th regnal year of Hadrian. The composition is characteristic of Alexandrian provincial bronzes, combining Egyptian iconographic elements — the sphinx — with Hellenistic personification types.

附加信息

Year 12 of Hadrian's reign, rendered in Alexandria as ΕΤΟΥΣ ΔΩΔΕΚΑΤΟΥ, places this piece in a particularly active period of the emperor's travels — he visited Egypt in 130 AD, and the Alexandrian mint was already ramping up commemorative and regnal-year issues in anticipation. The Egyptian provincial bronze series operated entirely outside Rome's monetary authority, functioning under the prefect of Egypt and closed to non-Egyptian circulation by imperial policy.

Alexandrian bronzes of this regnal year are notoriously inconsistent in flan preparation, and weight variation across surviving specimens is wide.
