The effigy is depicted with a matronly, idealized countenance consistent with the allegorical representation of the Roman Senate as a divine or semi-divine entity on provincial coinage. The encircling Greek legend ΙΕΡΑ ϹΥΝΚΛΗΤΟϹ (Sacred Senate) appears in the field around the bust. The flan is broad and slightly irregular, typical of hand-struck provincial bronze issues from the Conventus of Cibyra during the Hadrianic period. |
